Our Mission

We are VERBUND, an Austrian company with international stature. Hydropower, supplemented by thermal and wind power, is the backbone of our business. At all levels of the value chain, from generation and transmission to trading and sales, our focus is on forward-looking, sustainable electricity solutions for responsible people. We deliver excellence on a daily basis in our commitment to profitable growth, ecological and social responsibility as well as a culture of compassion in relation to our stakeholders.

Our strategy

  • 01 Profitable growth and excellent rating

    Trading based on factors of economy and profitability, financial stability and sustainability are basic principles of our decisions.
    Investments in research and development form the basis for future business models. Tasks and challenges of the future are mastered together clear structures and responsibilities.

  • 02 Markets and regions

    In addition to our domestic market in Austria and the second strongest market in Germany, we aim to further expand our portfolio in growth regions.

  • 03 Hydropower

    More than four fifths of VERBUND’s electricity comes from eco-friendly hydropower. We are further expanding hydropower in our markets.

  • 04 Thermal and wind power to supplement supply

    In addition to hydropower, we invest in onshore wind power. These two sources are supplemented with existing low CO2 thermal power plants.

  • 05 Trading & Distribution

    Our trading activities are primarily concerned with the securing and marketing of our own production. Innovate green electricity products increase the value of our generated electricity.

    Our position is one of Austria's leading provider of quality electricity. We offer our customers clean electricity in combination with innovative products and services.

  • 07 Power grid

    The power grid of APG, our independent subsidiary, is the most powerful grid in Austria; it guarantees for the security of electricity supply and links the country up with the international electricity market. We are continuing to drive expansion of the grid in order to continue ensuring security of supply.

  • 08 Innovation and new applications

    We play a leading role in developing new applications for electricity and promote research and development – for example in the area of electric vehicles.

    Our collaboration with all of our stakeholders is cooperative, fair and reliable. We attach great importance to dealing with conflict situations in a constructive manner.

  • Clear and open communication

    We engage in an open and objective dialogue with our stakeholders and we ensure that our actions are comprehensible and clear.

  • Confidentiality

    As an exchange-listed company, we are subject to strict guidelines imposed by the financial markets. Compliance with these guidelines is ensured by our compliance officer.

  • Responsible action

    We have a zero-tolerance policy towards unfair business practices and any type of corruption and bribery (for example, kickbacks). We speak up for human rights and respect the dignity of each individual. We firmly reject any form of child labour or forced labour. And we expect that these values are also embraced by our business partners.

  • Compliance with the law and contractual fidelity

    We comply with applicable law and honour our agreements and contracts. We are committed to the Austrian Corporate Governance Code and to the EU’s unbundling regulations.

  • Human resources

    Qualified and motivated employees are the basis of our success. Our employees are characterised by their excellent qualifications, personal commitment and identification with our corporate goals and principles.

    We offer them individual opportunities for development and bright future prospects. It is our goal to adjust working conditions to our employees’ respective personal situations so that a healthy work-life balance is possible, enabling us to achieve long-term collaboration with our employees.

    We are committed to fair competition. We reject any form of collusion under anti-trust law, whether it be with regard to prices, market share, capacity, division of regional markets or price-fixing.

    In all of our fields of activity, we are guided by the principle of sustainability – holistically taking into consideration economic success, environmental protection and safeguarding the interests of both our employees and the company itself.
As the largest utility in Austria, we are also successful in other European countries. We are aware of our responsibility towards our shareholders, our employees and our business partners as well as towards society and the environment and we act in accordance with the following principles.
