This Is Our Dual Apprenticeship

You want to train for two jobs at once? Come to VERBUND!

Every year, we train apprentices in a variety of professions. In their first year of training, you will gain practical experience at one of our training centres at the Danube power plant Ybbs-Persenbeug, in Kaprun or in Töging am Inn in Germany. From their second year of training onward, they receive their vocational training at one of our power plants or substations with additional module training at the training centre.

Please be informed that all training is provided in German, therefore fluency in German is a pre-requisite.

  • VERBUND Training Centres

    Our apprentices gain their first practical experience at Verbund’s own training workshops. These are situated near key company locations: Ybbs-Persenbeug Danube power plant, Kaprun storage power plant and Inn power plant Töging in Germany. Directly next to the training workshops we offer our apprentices inexpensive and modern accommodation.

    The training workshop in Ybbs is one of the most modern training centres in Austria. Highly qualified instructors motivate our apprentices from the first day of training to the skilled trades examination. 

    In response to the high demand, VERBUND has now expanded its apprentice-training program. In Kaprun, a second training workshop was build close to the large VERBUND storage power plant. Since September 2009, approx. 15 apprentices a year have been training in Kaprun in the dual profession of electrical engineering (systems and industrial engineering) and metal enineering (mechanical engineering).

    The state-of-the-art training workshop in Töging am Inn (Germany) primarily trains apprentices for the Bavarian Inn power plants and the border power plants.

    To qualify for an apprenticeship at VERBUND, you need high marks from the fifth grade onward.We are looking for motivated and mobile people with technical skills who enjoy working in a team. In return, we offer you a job with a future, promising prospects and attractive further training options.

    You will pass a theoretical and practical test and convince us in a personal interview.

Jobs with Apprenticeship at VERBUND

  • Electrical industrial/mechanical engineer (m/f)

    We offer you the unique opportunity to simultaneously learn two full professions in four years.

    Electrical engineering (industrial and mechanical) begins with simple circuitry with the important safety measures being conveyed right from the start – and in the fourth year of training digital and analogue instrumentation are part of the curriculum.

    Our mechanical engineering apprentices work on cutting-edge machinery. They program their components on the laptop and transfer the programs onto fully automatic manufacturing machines.

    The most diverse metalworking techniques are already carried out in the first year of training. Alongside the communication of basic know-how, the apprentices also receive the specialized knowledge required in the energy industry.

    This is what you'll be able to do
    Upon completion of your apprenticeship, you will have various opportunities: as an electrical engineer (systems and industrial engineering), you will plan, install and monitor electrical systems. As a metal engineer (mechanical engineering) you will design and build components for machines as well as entire plants.
    This way, you will be contributing your share to Austria's leading electricity company's production of environmentally friendly electricity.


    For our dual profession, we are seeking young technically minded people with good qualifications who are distinguished by their high degree of motivation and willingness to perform, their ability to be a team player as well as flexibility.

    Our dual profession training is possible at the following subsidiaries at locations throughout Austria and Germany:

    • VERBUND Hydro Power AG: produces electricity from hydropower
    • VERBUND Thermal Power GmbH & Co KG: generates electricity in thermal power plants
    • VERBUND Innkraftwerke Deutschland GmbH: produces electricity from hydropower on the Bavarian Inn
    • Austrian Power Grid AG: is Austria’s largest transporter of electricity

  • Surveying technician (m/f)

    Surveying technicians conduct surveying, hydrographic and building measurement controls and audit surveying at dams and power plants all over Austria.

    In addition to a pronounced technical and mathematical comprehension, this profession also requires the ability to think in a logical-analytical way, good vision and spatial ability, the willingness to take part in outdoor assignments, physical suitability for jobs in high mountains and good swimming ability. We also expect you to have good computer skills (ECDL modules would be advantageous).

  • (Structural) engineering draftsman (m(f)

    As a (structural) engineering draftsman, you are responsible for the structural maintenance and new development or expansion of river power plants throughout Austria.

    In addition to a pronounced technical and mathematical comprehension, this profession also requires the ability to think in a logical-analytical way, spatial ability and good computer skills (ECDL modules would be advantageous).

  • Communications engineer

    As a communications engineering apprentice you will be working for VERBUND telecommunications in Vienna.
