The VERBUND Women's Scholarship

The VERBUND women's scholarship grants assistance to highly qualified women in technical jobs and is awarded annually in cooperation with the TU Vienna Career Center.

VERBUND women's scholarship 2012

For what is already the fourth time, VERBUND - in cooperation with the TU Vienna Career Center - this year awarded the unique women’s scholarship to three outstanding students of Vienna University of Technology.

The scholarships were presented by Georg Westphal, head of personnel of the VERBUND Group, on 19.4.2012 as part of the Vienna University of Technology job fair (TUday12, Vienna University of Technology, Freihaus, Wiedner Hauptstraße 8 - 10, 1040 Vienna).

  • Clarissa Stracke

    University beginner Clarissa Stracke is studying industrial engineering/mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Vienna. What fascinates her about her course of study is the "diversity and variety", and she is an "enthusiastic engineer". She regrets the fact that "women continue to be underrepresented in technical fields of study". All the more reason for her to be happy about promising initiatives like the VERBUND women's scholarship, "because the targeted promotion of qualified female engineers and engineers-to-be can encourage women to engage more in technology."

  • Sandra Thurner

    Sandra Thurner, master student of electrical engineering at the Vienna Technical University, chose energy technology as the focus of her course of study. "My particular interest is in the field of renewable energies, and the VERBUND women's scholarship allows me further intensify my expertise in hydropower and wind energy. But I also want to concentrate on personality development and languages. I intend to use the scholarship in order to train my personality and negotiation skills and also to learn a third language," Ms Thurner says happily on the occasion of receiving the VERBUND scholarship.

  • Christa Simon

    For Christa Simon, PhD student of technical mathematics at the Technical University of Vienna, the VERBUND women's scholarship means being able to increase networking at national and international conferences in her field of research. "Presenting own research results and sharing findings with colleagues at workshops at international level is a unique opportunity for young researchers, but also very cost-intensive. In this respect, the VERBUND women's scholarship gives me an invaluable advantage." For her, the VERBUND scholarship represents a "unique opportunity for further development, both at personal and at professional level."

The VERBUND Award Winners 2011
The three winners of the VERBUND  scholarship 2011 have distinguished themselves through outstanding academic performances, practical and overseas experience, as well as through a high degree of social skills. First-year student Clarissa Stracke, master’s student Sandra Thurner and PhD student Christa Simon are the proud winners of the VERBUND women’s scholarship.

Comprehensive Multilevel Selection Process
Some 30 highly qualified TU students applied for the VERBUND women’s scholarship. All candidates initially completed a telephone interview, and several participants were subsequently invited to attend a hearing. It was here that the three winners had to convince a top-class jury comprising HR experts and top managers from VERBUND, as well as experts from the TU Career Center, among others, within the framework of presentations and team exercises.
