From 25 November 2009 until 10 March 2010, SAMMLUNG VERBUND presented Birgit Jürgenssen (1949-2003) in the Vertical Gallery. Birgit Jürgenssen, one of the most outstanding artists of the feminist avant-garde, has left a complex oeuvre behind her. The some 3,000 pieces comprise graphic prints, drawings, watercolours, collages, paintings, photographs and sculptures.
SAMMLUNG VERBUND showed some 40 of the artist’s works, the leitmotiv of which are the female body, disguise, fragmentation and animalisation. Birgit Jürgenssen was not concerned with having a uniform and recognisable style, but rather wanted to live out her desire to experiment.
