The planned hydropower plant in the municipal area of Gratkorn is a joint-venture project planned by VERBUND and Energie Steiermark and will be implemented by VERBUND Hydro Power AG.
With a capacity of up to 11 megawatt (MW), the Mur power plant of Gratkorn, situated in an industrial centre right by the consumers, will generate clean electricity without pollutants. With an annual output of more than 54 million kilowatt (kWh) hours of electricity, the hydropower plant will be able to save emissions of around 44,000 tons (t) of CO2 more per year than a fossil fuel power plant. In addition to a broad range of ecological accompanying measures, the Mur power plant of Gratkorn will also contribute to improving flood protection for the abutting residents. A new, additional Mur bridge for cyclists, pedestrians and amateur athletes in the vicinity of the power plant will upgrade leisure opportunities and the cycle networks.
