VERBUND already operates one 22 MW wind farm in Petronell-Carnuntum. The 11 wind turbines were erected in 2004 and supply some 13,500 households with clean wind energy. On account of the rapid further development of wind turbine technology, just 7 wind turbines are sufficient to supply some 15,200 households with clean wind energy in the new wind farm of Petronell-Carnuntum II.
In the realisation of the wind farm, VERBUND is focussing on handling the environment in a sustainable, resource-conserving way and on the cooperative relationship with the municipalities.
At the same time, the 15 MW Hollern II wind farm is being erected in the neighbouring municipality of Hollern. A further 21 MW wind farm is in the development phase in Bruck-Göttlesbrunn.
