With a height of 200 m and a width of 626 m, Kölnbrein Dam is the largest barrage wall in Austria. At peak periods it retains 200 million m³ of water - an amount that would allow 1.4 billion people (20 % of the Earth’s population) to fill a bathtub.
Technical values are monitored at 2,500 control points every day. A guided tour of the barrage wall will give you the opportunity to learn more about electricity production and the interior workings of the dam.
In an interactive and playful way, the adventure worlds of Berghotel Malta will enable you to discover how electricity is obtained from water and the significance that this clean method of electricity production has for our future.
The guided tours take place non-stop and last for approx. one hour. The meeting point is directly at the shop, where you can also obtain the tickets.
