Continuity and further rejuvenation at the top of the Group: The VERBUND Supervisory Board, in today's meeting, has appointed Christian Kern as a further member of the Managing Board, effective from 11 May of the current year.
Kern, born in 1966, has already been active in leading positions for 10 years within the VERBUND Group, his last position having been the successful management of the VERBUND electricity trade subsidiary VERBUND-Austria Power Trading (APT) for four years as member of the Managing Board. New tasks within the Managing Board of the VERBUND Group will, in accordance with the criteria set forth in the position announcement, include responsibility for acquisition activities abroad, as well as integration and growth of foreign participating interests on behalf of VERBUND.
"This decision on the part of the Supervisory Board, reached independently and in adherence to the criteria governing the capital market, together with the assistance of renowned personnel advisor Egon Zehnder International, constitutes an important milestone towards further rejuvenation and continuity. The choice to appoint Christian Kern is, among other things, a signal on the part of VERBUND to young, dedicated executives that they have the ability to make it to the top of their company," Erhard Schaschl, Chairman of the VERBUND Supervisory Board, demonstrates his satisfaction with the result. "We are especially proud once more to have a number of top qualified candidates, many of whom have emerged from management positions within VERBUND," Schaschl continues. "In the case of Christian Kern, we have here a leading personality who, within the scope of his previous activities, has successfully proved being in possession of the required management qualities. With his abilities and youthful enthusiasm, Christian Kern will be contributing significant momentum for the further development on the European electricity market."
All decisions - both in the nomination committee and in the Supervisory Board - have been reached unanimously.
