Construction of the new wind farms is a further step towards a more environmentally friendly and sustainable energy future. With a total capacity of 36 MW, the wind farms will annually supply some 25,000 households with wind power. The start of construction on the third wind farm of Bruck-Göttlesbrunn, with a capacity of 21 MW, is planned for next year. Upon completion of the three wind farms, VERBUND will more than double its capacity in the Bruck region to over 100 MW.

With a two-metre-high giant spade, the first, symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the VERBUND wind farms of Hollern II and Petronell-Carnuntum II was today performed in the presence of all those involved in the project and local authority representatives. The construction works have therewith officially started for the realisation of 12 wind power plants in the municipal areas of Rohrau and Petronell. The new generation 3 MW ENERCON plants count among the technologically most valuable and efficient wind farms currently available on the market.

"Wind energy is a natural resource that is there to be used and that’s what we have been doing for many years. As early as 2009, VERBUND has been operating wind farms in our municipal areas and has always been a competent partner, respecting and heeding the interests and wishes of the community," declared Ingrid Scheumbauer, mayor of Petronell-Carnuntum. Also benefiting from the construction of the wind farms are the local communities, since an important amount of added value flows into the community infrastructure.

"From the very outset it was important to us that, in addition to the municipalities, the local inhabitants also benefit directly from the construction of the wind farms," added Herbert Speckl, mayor of Rohrau. VERBUND offers the inhabitants of the local communities the possibility to invest their money in wind energy in an ecologically meaningful way and therewith share in the profits of the new wind farms. "We are proud, through these new wind farms, to be make a further contribution to a more environmentally friendly and low-carbon energy future and we look forward to the continued good - and hopefully windy - cooperation with VERBUND," concluded Scheumbauer and Speckl.
