Traditional “Must-Attend” Event for Motorbike Fans on the Kölnbrein Dam

The traditional motorbike dedication on the Kölnbrein Dam (at 200 metres, Austria’s highest dam) took place this year on 1 July 2012. As was the case in previous years, bikers - and perhaps would-be bikers - stormed onto the Kölnbrein Dam. This year saw a new record being registered with 1,000 motorbikes. Following the dedication of the motorbikes and their drivers by Father Zoltán Papp, VERBUND extended an invitation to celebrate with a BBQ, rock music and insights into the world of electricity.

At the 14th motorbike dedication, more than 1,000 motorbikes were lined up by their drivers on the Kölnbrein Dam, Austria’s highest dam. Cruising along the crest of the dam is only possible on this occasion. Just as traditional as the blessing of Saint Christopher is the corresponding biker pin, the popular collector’s object and souvenir of the annual excursion on Malta-Hochalmstraße.

Music, BBQ, Harley and a Special Place of Power

Following the contemplative part of the event, VERBUND offered a varied supporting programme centred around the Kölnbrein Dam and Berghotel Malta***s. The famous Carinthian rock band "The Gang" transported the guests back to the sixties and seventies. The culinary pampering programme was created by the team from Berghotel Malta***s.

For all those who have always wanted to sit on a Harley Davidson, the opportunity presented itself for a test drive on the occasion of the 14th motorbike dedication. The latest model of the cult machine was made available by Motodrom Harley Davidson. The Airwalk, a special kind of viewing platform on the Kölnbrein Dam, invited visitors to risk seeing the Malta valley from a different perspective. Those, who dared to step out onto the platform, experienced the feeling of floating over the abyss.

Anyone wishing to find out more about the Kölnbrein Dam, Austria’s highest dam, proceeded to the interior of this impressive construction during the course of a guided tour of the dam. The VERBUND Malta Energy World was also on the programme for those keen to find out more about the world of electricity generation.
