VERBUND supplies Automobile Dacia S.A. with electricity and green certificates from the Romanian wind power plants

The cooperation between VERBUND, Austria's largest electricity company and the Renault subsidiary Automobile Dacia S.A. has started on 1 July 2019. VERBUND will supply wind energy from the Romanian Casimcea wind farm amounting to 344 GWh and 149,000 green certificates. The deal was concluded in the context of the strategic partnership between VERBUND and Axpo Energy Romania.

The company Automobile Dacia S.A., subsidiary of the Renault Group, operates plants in Romania in Mioveni, Oarja, Pitești, Merișani, Conțești, Ștefănești and in the district of Argeș. With over 14,000 employees, Automobile Dacia S.A. is the largest employer in the Romanian industry, achieving turnover of 5.3 billion euros in 2018 for the first time (+6.8% compared to 2017).

VERBUND, Austria's biggest electricity company and one of Europe's leading hydropower producers, operates one of Europe's largest onshore wind farms in Casimcea, near the Romanian Black Sea coast, with 88 wind turbines and a total installed capacity of 226 MW. In 2017 VERBUND started supplying Romanian end customers in the industrial segment via the strategic partnership created with Axpo Energy Romania. Axpo is one of the forerunners when it comes to marketing renewable energies in Europe and specialized in the Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) business, including PPAs for energy-intensive large corporates all throughout Europe.

From July 2019, Automobile Dacia S.A. will switch to renewable electricity supplied by VERBUND for its automotive and component production: For the first year of the cooperation the two companies agreed upon a delivery volume of 344 GWh or 149,000 green certificates from the VERBUND wind power plants in Casimcea.
