The dynamic expansion of renewable energy plants goes hand in hand with new marketing concepts and revenue options. For operators of wind,
PV and small-scale hydropower facilities, VERBUND offers interesting models for direct marketing as Austria’s leading marketer of green electricity certificates in the German-speaking countries.

The ambitious expansion targets for wind and PV offer an interesting market environment, especially in Germany. With around 1,650 MW, VERBUND Energy4Business Germany has been marketing a growing portfolio in Germany for years. Moreover, VERBUND is also active in the promising market segment in Austria, France, Luxembourg and Romania. In Germany, VERBUND offers both classic direct marketing via the market premium model and PPA products for plants that are no longer eligible for EEG support (old Ü20 plants). Operators of renewable energy plants benefit here from sustainable growth and development opportunities through various price models such as, for example, fixed or spot price remuneration.

Innovative business model for old Ü20 plants

Around 4,400 megawatts of wind power were no longer eligible for EEG support from the beginning of 2021. By 2025, the figure will be a total of 16,000 MW. This poses major challenges for plant operators. VERBUND supports them with the successful ongoing operation of their old plants, which continue to make an important contribution to the energy transition. With partnership-based solutions, viable business models will be developed for a fair remuneration of sustainably produced energy.

Twice the profit with the EEG market premium model

In accordance with the Renewable Energies Act (EEG), direct marketing has been mandatory in Germany since 2016 for all new generation facilities with a power output of 100 kilowatts. VERBUND takes on the direct marketing of all the green electricity produced for operators of subsidised wind, water and photovoltaic facilities. Even existing plants that are still accounted for conventionally via the EEG feed-in tariff can increase their profitability significantly by switching to direct marketing.
