VERBUND invests in Austrian e-mobility startup UBIQ

VERBUND Ventures GmbH is investing 1.5 million euros in the Austrian startup UBIQ.

The seven-digit financing round was concluded together with the Corporate Venture Capital Fund of the Swiss energy service provider Energie 360°, the Smart Energy Innovation Fund and Smartworks Innovation, the Corporate Venture Capital Fund of Wien Energie and Wiener Stadtwerke.

Austria's leading energy company VERBUND has supported European startups in the climate-tech field with its own Corporate Venture Capital unit since last year. The investments in green innovations across Europe are intended to ensure the acceleration of a sustainable energy future for Austria and beyond.

In addition to the first portfolio company of the CVC, HalloSonne, a provider of innovative PV facilities for rent or purchase, the team has set itself the goal of investing in promising business models as a means to accelerating the energy transition.

The recently made investment in UBIQ means that there is now also an investment in the field of electromobility. "We're investing in promising business models for a sustainable energy future. Zero-emission mobility solutions make an important contribution to the energy transition. By investing in UBIQ, we are anticipating financial returns as well as cooperation with VERBUND Business Units," says Michael Strugl, CEO VERBUND AG, about the recently made investment.

UBIQ offers AI-supported services for fleet management in the Shared (e-)Mobility sector. It is about achieving, for example, demand prediction, timely charging and efficiency optimisation. The Austrian startup is already active in over 12 countries in Europe and North America, and almost 12,000 car are supported by the Software-as-a-Service products developed by UBIQ.

"Increasing electrification in the transport sector and growth of the global 'Shared Mobility' market will also see Shared Mobility services gain in importance. UBIQ is already proving that an initial scaling up of its solution on the global market was successful. We want to support the startup team with the next phase of growth," emphasises Franz Zöchbauer, managing director of VERBUND X Ventures.

Involved in the capital round are VERBUND X Ventures' existing investors, including the Smart Energy Innovation Fund of Energy 360° and Smartworks Innovation, the Corporate Venture Capital Fund of Wien Energie and Wiener Stadtwerke. Other investors in UBIQ also include Speedinvest and Business Angels.

UBIQ wants to use the investment to build up the team, make further IT developments and grow sales. "Our entire team is thrilled to be able to welcome three strong players in the energy ecosystem as partners, namely VERBUND X Ventures, Energie 360° and Smartworks. Both mobility and energy are undergoing a massive transformation towards sustainability. We see ourselves as bridge builders in this, for enabling synergies between the ecosystems," says Christian Adelsberger, founder and CEO of UBIQ.
