Volvo Trucks and VERBUND agree a joint venture with a pioneering character. The partners are combining their competences in the areas of mobility, infrastructure and new energy solutions such as photovoltaics and energy management in order to advance the mobility transition together.
The joint venture is based on the combined implementation of e-mobility solutions supported by the area of renewable energies, because sustainability and the advancement of the mobility transition come right at the top of the partners’ agenda. “Environmental protection has been one of the core values of Volvo Trucks from the outset,” says Patrick Dornig, Managing Director of Volvo Group Austria GmbH. “We have set ourselves the target of at least 50 percent of all trucks sold being electric by 2030 and that we will become a climate-neutral company by 2040. We believe in a sustainable future for the transport industry and that the transition is also possible in the commercial vehicle sector thanks to the renewable electricity of VERBUND and its charging infrastructure. That’s why we’re particularly pleased about the trendsetting joint venture with VERBUND.”
“The partnership with Volvo Trucks gives us the possibility to advise our customers even more fully while at the same time allowing us to strengthen the positioning of both companies as drivers of the mobility transition,” emphasises Martin Wagner, Managing Director of VERBUND Energy4Business GmbH. “Both companies are focused on sustainability. By cooperating, we are further advancing the energy transition in the area of transport together and thus also addressing the topic of sector coupling between mobility and energy.”
The new electric trucks from Volvo and the customer-specific charging infrastructure from VERBUND guarantee zero-emission beer transport locally, so that millions of beer lovers throughout the country can be supplied with their favourite drink.
The technical implementation partner is the 75%-owned VERBUND subsidiary SMATRICS, which provides charging point control and charge card administration via its internally developed software solution charVIS.
Mobility transition for clean and quiet trucks
HGV transport remains one of the biggest challenges of the mobility transition, although increasing numbers of companies are gradually opting for environmentally friendly and sustainable alternatives. The fully electric trucks from Volvo Trucks are helping to create a smooth transition to electromobility. Using these electric trucks to optimal effect requires the right charging infrastructure with clean electricity. With its Business-Charging solution, VERBUND provides a comprehensive charging infrastructure with 100 percent renewable electricity for electromobility. The solution comprises intelligent charge management, 24-hour hotline, operation, monitoring, billing and reporting. Fleet drivers charge using the VERBUND charging card, both at company locations and across Austria in the SMATRICS EnBW charging network and beyond Austria’s borders.“The partnership with Volvo Trucks gives us the possibility to advise our customers even more fully while at the same time allowing us to strengthen the positioning of both companies as drivers of the mobility transition,” emphasises Martin Wagner, Managing Director of VERBUND Energy4Business GmbH. “Both companies are focused on sustainability. Zero-emission beer transport for Brau Union
In a first joint project, three of the new electric trucks from Volvo Trucks with the matching e-charging infrastructure from VERBUND are in use at Austria’s largest brewing company, Brau Union Österreich AG. In the first phase, a total of six locations, including the headquarters in Linz, were equipped with over 70 AC charging points and, to date, six DC rapid chargers. At the same time as replacing the beer transporters with battery-powered electric vehicles, there are also plans to further expand the charging infrastructure. The new electric trucks from Volvo and the customer-specific charging infrastructure from VERBUND guarantee zero-emission beer transport locally, so that millions of beer lovers throughout the country can be supplied with their favourite drink.
