Acting responsibly means not just pursuing one’s own vested interests, but also taking the implications of one’s actions on others and the environment into account.

VERBUND has been faithful to the concept of sustainability for many years. Environmental protection, careful resource management and social accountability are the main objectives of a sustainable development for VERBUND. Our definition of sustainable is based on that of the Brundtland Commission and determines our corporate action. We respect ecological boundaries by means of efficient utilisation of resources and, at the same time, strive to achieve social justice. Our employees and executive officers make decisions and act in compliance with sustainability. If any decisions or actions are opposed to each other in the sectors of economy, environment and social affairs, then the pros and cons have to be discussed carefully; the decision or action that contributes most sustainably to the long-term success of the company will be the one that is favoured.
