VERBUND plans to erect 800 MW gas power plant in Slovenia

24.11.2004Wien

VERBUND, the Holding Slovenske Elektrarne (HSE) and aluminium manufacturer TALUM have reached an agreement concerning the establishment of a joint Slovenian company for the planning and construction of a combined natural gas power plant with an installed power of 800 megawatt on the TALUM site in Kidricevo.

This combined gas power plant in Kidricevo located 25 km southeast of Maribor will further contribute to the industrial development in Slovenia, providing it with key momentum and increased power generating capacity, thereby contributing not only to the electricity supply in Slovenia, but also in the neighbouring states of Italy and Austria.

For VERBUND, Slovenia and all other countries bordering on Austria are of particular interest as a market, in which VERBUND, with APT Slovenja, has already been present for a number of years. HSE is interested in increasing its production capacities; for TALUM, there are additional advantages through the use of the infrastructure in the implementation of the combined gas power plant on the company site in Kidricevo.

This joint venture will enable the partners to intensify their long-standing collaboration in Slovenia. The dimensions of the planned combined gas power plant in Kidricevo are comparable to those of the power plant planned by VERBUND in Mellach in Styria, creating synergetic effects during the construction phase as well as in the operation and maintenance of both power plants.
