Salzach power plant Gries: Start of Construction not before 2015

Difficult framework conditions for large-scale investments

Hydropower has a high (place) value in and for Salzburg. Even now, the VERBUND and Salzburg AG operated Salzach power plants are a guarantor for regional supply security in Salzburg and offer an important economic benefit for the country.

Investments in the modernisation of existing plant locations and well-contrived constructions of new power plants pursue the goal of covering electricity consumption with clean, affordable electricity from domestic production. However, current overall conditions on the power market do not offer enough of a basis at present for the economic realisation of projects in the order of magnitude of the Gries power plant.

VERBUND and Salzburg AG are majority shareholders in public ownership. Hence, both companies now have the special responsibility, as far as the customers are concerned, to examine large-scale investments such as this with utmost scrutiny. Because of these necessary considerations, a start of construction will not be feasible before 2015.
