VERBUND greets the new heroes of the energy future
37 apprentices have begun their training with VERBUND this year. The sought-after dual vocational training (electrical engineering and metal technology) will ensure the future of hydropower in Austria. At the same time the first female master trainer is starting her service at the apprenticeship workshop in Ybbs-Persenbeug.
With the ceremonious handing over of the apprenticeship contracts, today 37 power plant workers and one surveying technician took their first step into the energy future. Over the course of the next four years they will be trained at the VERBUND apprenticeship workshops in Kaprun, Ybbs-Persenbeug and Töging am Inn, and later at the power plant locations. A total of 37 apprentices were taken on this year for all of Austria and Bavaria.
Michael Amerer as Managing Director of VERBUND Hydro Power GmbH is also responsible for apprentice training. "We place great importance on a comprehensive and thorough training for our future technicians, because the responsibility in our core business, hydropower, is becoming more and more challenging. Hydropower is the key to the energy future and to the battle against climate change."
The first female master trainer is starting her service in Ybbs
Even now, women are sparsely represented in technical professions. Master trainer Brigitte Mayrhofer of Ybbs is a pioneer in this field. The Ybbs native with a master's certificate in mechanical engineering is joining the training team in Ybbs starting in September, and will be VERBUND's first female master trainer.
Two professions – one apprenticeship
Starting as an apprentice at VERBUND is the foundation for many development possibilities in the future professional career. The dual apprenticeship creates a solid basis: During the 4-year apprenticeship period, the prospective skilled workers are trained as electrical engineers and metal technicians. Training takes place at the apprenticeship workshops in Kaprun, Ybbs and Töging (Bavaria). Great importance is placed on the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in practice right away – most appropriately at one of VERBUND's 127 power plants. Other apprentices and experienced supervisors create a positive environment which also includes shared leisure activities.
