After only five years of construction work, in 2011, a new pumped storage plant in the area of the existing Limberg I pumped storage power plant went into operation and the output capacity of the Kaprun power plant group more than doubled from 353 MW to 833 MW.  With two pump turbines, the height difference between the two existing storage reservoirs of Mooserboden and Wasserfallboden can be used to generate balancing and control energy.
