Dismantling work at the oil-fired Werndorf power plant in the fall of 2017

The bicycle path R2 is closed in the Werndorf district from 3 July 2017 to 30 September 2017, because the space is needed as movement area for the 1000-tonne crawler crane for dismantling work on the smokestack of the abandoned oil-fired power plant. For a start, in July the movement area was built up along with a temporary base strip (during a storm) and subsequently compacted. The crawler crane was delivered in 40 individual truckloads and built up in the area of the closed bicycle path. The end of July the crane was erected and configured for the first lifting phase.

Starting in August, the mast grid formation with two flue pipes (one GFK, one steel) is being disassembled and cleared away in dozens of individual segments from top to bottom. In the process, the crane is not only doing the lifting work, but also transporting the workers onto the respective work platforms each day. The originally 175 metre tall smokestack has already been reduced to a height of 150 metres, and this week additional steel anchoring cables needed to be put in. If the wind conditions allow it, starting on Monday the next pipe section with weights of up to 50 tonnes will be lifted off. The bicycle path will not be restored and opened until the crane has been disassembled and taken away. A well-marked detour has been arranged.
