Petronell-Carnuntum Wind Farm

VERBUND's wind park at Petronell-Carnuntum is situated in the municipality of Petronell-Carnuntum in eastern Lower Austria. It was acquired in 2009 by Wind Power Austria, a wholly owned subsidiary of VERBUND Renewable Power.

The wind farm Bruck an der Leitha carried out wind measurements in Petronell-Carnuntum from March 2001. The measurements were taken at two heights: 30 m and 50 m. The evaluation of the data revealed a wind velocity of almost 7 m/s at a hub height of 98 metres. Due to these positive results, the wind farm Bruck an der Leitha decided to erect a further wind farm for climate friendly electricity production within the framework of a cooperation project with the municipality Petronell-Carnuntum. In autumn 2004, eleven wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2 MW, a rotor diameter of 70 metres and a hub height of 98 metres were erected southwest of Petronell-Carnuntum.
