At the end of October, the Upper Austrian cream roll king Guschlbauer commissioned a photovoltaic system at its St. Willibald site. At around 500 kWp, the system will generate around 505,000 kWh of electricity annually from renewable energy. This corresponds to the annual electricity requirements of around 100 Austrian households. Austria’s leading energy company VERBUND has built and started up the PV system.
"Our quality standards are high, and that applies equally to our products and our processes. Economic success goes hand in hand with ecological measures. That’s why we decided to use electricity from renewable sources," explains Karl Guschlbauer, Managing Director Guschlbauer. "The VERBUND operator model is the ideal solution for us to switch to solar power without any risk or investment costs. This will allow us to use our roof spaces, optimise our carbon footprint, and reduce costs. This fits perfectly with our sustainability strategy and our products."
This long-established Upper Austrian company supplies a broad range of baked goods under one roof and is the national market leader in cream, Linzer, and coconut pastries. With its steadfast innovative power paired with reliability and quality, the company has held its ground in the highly competitive bakery market for the past four decades. "As a family business, we combine traditional values with innovative solutions to offer daily enjoyment with responsibility," remarks Guschlbauer. "The photovoltaic system has been adapted to our electricity consumption profile and ensures that nearly 100% of the electricity generated goes directly into our production. This has a positive impact on our carbon footprint. In addition, we will benefit in the long term from cheaper electricity prices than grid purchases and from the solar power that we generate on our rooftops for many years after the end of the contract. VERBUND is a reliable, innovative energy partner for sustainable production."
"We are particularly pleased about working with the family-run company Guschlbauer. We believe that a sustainable future is possible for all. That’s why we are actively pursuing the transition to clean energy and massively expanding renewable energy facilities across Europe. To achieve our climate objectives, we all have to pull together. That’s another reason why it is so important that major, long-established companies like Guschlbauer set a good example," emphasises Michael Strugl, CEO of VERBUND.
The Upper Austrian family business is the national market leader in cream, Linzer, and coconut pastries and uses the power of the sun to make cream rolls, coconut domes, and other goodies.
