ENOVA Value has transferred the project rights for several wind energy sites in the Hochsauerland district to VERBUND Green Power Deutschland GmbH. The transfer enables the company to gradually take over further development and implementation of the projects and ensure their long-term operation.
Through the sale, a portfolio with a capacity of up to 140 MW in the Hochsauerlandkreis district has been transferred to VERBUND Green Power Deutschland GmbH, a subsidiary of listed Vienna-based company VERBUND AG. VERBUND will continue with the existing project structures and assume all contractual obligations and commitments made in the previous development phase. For the region, this means planning security, reliability and a stable, long-term partner for a sustainable regional energy supply.
This step by ENOVA Value is in line with the company’s continued focus on its core business: repowering existing wind farms with project partners and developing new project areas in the Weser-Ems region, known as ‘ENOVA country’.
“The projects in the Arnsberg administrative district are important to us, which is why we are very confidently handing them over to a partner who has technical and economic expertise and also fits in culturally in the region,” said Hauke Brümmer, CEO of ENOVA. “VERBUND has many years of experience in developing renewable energy projects in Germany, operates these on a long-term basis in its own portfolio and is a strong and stable partner for the region. The decision was made with the aim of ensuring the best possible planning and implementation of the projects in the interests of all parties involved.”
“The wind power projects in the Hochsauerland district are an important milestone for us in Germany and contribute to our strategic goal of generating 25% of our electricity from wind and solar power. We are delighted to be driving forward these pioneering projects in cooperation with local people,” said Michael Strugl, CEO of VERBUND.
“VERBUND is Austria’s leading energy company with over 75 years of experience in constructing and operating renewable energy generation facilities such as hydro, wind and solar power. The close involvement of all stakeholders – local residents and landowners – and strong community buy-in are extremely important to us. This is the only way to create a project that will be successful in the long term and supported by the region,” explained Dörte Zink, managing director of VERBUND Green Power Deutschland GmbH.
VERBUND plans to start construction in 2027 and expects this to take three to four years. The permit applications in accordance with the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG) for three of the five wind energy projects have already been submitted. VERBUND and ENOVA will continue with the approval procedures of the projects together with the aim of putting the projects into operation as quickly as possible.
As a developer, investor, service provider and operations manager, the ENOVA Group shapes electricity generation in Germany. With determination and a high level of technical and commercial expertise, the family-owned company develops wind farms, invests in old plants and, as an independent specialist for Enercon turbines, is responsible for the maintenance and servicing of hundreds of wind turbines throughout Germany. ENOVA currently supplies 800,000 households with green electricity and has obtained around 2,000 MW of wind energy permits since 1989. A total of EUR 600 million will be invested in German wind energy projects by 2026.
