Generator sets in the Limberg III power plant down
Both generator sets at the VERBUND Kaprun plant group in the Limberg III (480 MW) power plant were down due to an insulation fault with the generator. The feed transformer also experienced a fault during the black start attempts with Kaprun-Oberstufe (160 MW). It will take months for the elaborate repairs to be completed.
Both generator sets at the VERBUND Kaprun plant group in the Limberg III (480 MW) power plant were down due to an insulation fault with the generator. Experts at the manufacturing company and VERBUND are working intensively to determine the cause of the outage. Due to the size of the system components, the inspection is complex and time consuming, and will take several months.
The feed transformer also experienced a fault during the black start attempts with Kaprun-Oberstufe (160 MW), which means that the entire Oberstufe is likely to be unavailable for several months.
VERBUND apologises for the outages and is working intensively on damage analysis and repair. Security of supply in Austria continues to be ensured through the use of the other storage and pumped storage power plants in Kaprun, as well as the Zillertal Valley and Malta-Reißeck power plant groups.
