The commissioning of the PÜSPÖK super-hybrid power plant in Nickelsdorf marks the launch of one of Europe’s most innovative energy projects. VERBUND is responsible for marketing the entire generation output from the 51 MW photovoltaic installation, 51 MW wind farm and 18 MW battery storage facility, underscoring its leading role as a marketing partner for renewable energy and flexible energy systems.
Developed by PÜSPÖK, Europe’s second-largest super-hybrid power plant combines wind power, photovoltaics and battery storage.
Through intelligent marketing, VERBUND is ensures optimal utilisation of generation and flexibility.
Austria’s largest co-location project is being built in Nickelsdorf. Combining wind power, photovoltaics and battery storage, it is also Europe’s second-largest super-hybrid power plant. The intelligent networking of the three technologies enables much more efficient use of the grid connection, increases flexibility within the power system and creates additional revenue potential for plant operators.
“Super-hybrid power plants such as the one in Nickelsdorf are the key to a clean, stable and independent energy supply. To unlock the plant’s full potential, we need an experienced marketing partner as well as state-of-the-art technology. With VERBUND, we have a partner who understands the complexity of the energy markets and optimally integrates wind power, photovoltaics and battery storage into the market,” explains Lukas Püspök, CEO of PÜSPÖK.
Hybrid power plants pose new challenges for marketing. Optimally managing different generation technologies and a battery storage system requires continuous tracking of market prices and intelligent operational planning.
VERBUND is responsible for marketing the entire plant on the energy markets. The combination of direct marketing, short-term trading optimisation and targeted use of the battery storage system ensures optimal utilisation of generation and flexibility. This creates additional revenue while making an important contribution to grid stability.
“The transition to clean energy requires not only new generation facilities but also intelligent marketing concepts. For co-location projects in particular, optimal marketing determines how economically wind power, photovoltaics and battery storage can work together. With our many years of expertise in energy trading, our own optimisation platform and our flexibility marketing know-how, we create decisive added value for our partners and get the most out of renewable generation facilities,” said Robert Slovacek, managing director of VERBUND Energy4Business GmbH.
The project in Nickelsdorf serves as a prime example of how renewable energy generation and storage technologies will work together in the future. By sharing infrastructure, grid capacity can be utilised more efficiently, renewable energy can be better integrated and both the security of supply and profitability can be enhanced.
By marketing the super-hybrid power plant, VERBUND is further strengthening its position as one of the leading marketing partners for renewable energy and battery storage. The company already markets several gigawatts of renewable generation capacity in Austria and Germany and continuously develops innovative solutions for hybrid power plants, co-location projects and flexibility marketing.
