Notice of Approval for Traisen Rehabilitation

25.05.2012Zwentendorf, Kirchberg am Wagram

Renaturation of the Traisen estuary has been given the environmental seal of approval by the office of the Lower Austrian provincial government. The decision is now on public display and can be inspected during a period of six weeks.

A healthy floodplain is to be reinstated in the lower stretch of the river between Traismauer and Zwentendorf. The Traisen currently runs along a regulated bed, which doesn’t give the river any opportunity for expansion.

The Environmental Impact Statement was submitted for approval on 21 October 2010 within the framework of an Environmental Impact Assessment. Inspection of the decision is possible during the eight-week display period.

Cost sharing among the project partners

The EU is largely funding the project with means from the LIFE+ Nature and Biodiversity Fund. Further cost participation is coming from the Lower Austrian Fisheries Association, the Lower Austrian Landscape Fund, via donau, as well as the Federal Water Engineering Administration.
