Relief package Electricity & heat for existing VERBUND Domestic & Commercial customers.

07.03.2024Vienna

VERBUND is lowering gas prices on 1 May 2024 and electricity prices on 1 July 2024 (for existing customers) as well as boosting the VERBUND hardship fund by 10 million euros. New customers have also been able to enjoy a very attractive fixed price offer for electricity since 26 February 2024.

The months following the start of the war in Ukraine were characterised by severe turbulence on the international energy markets, which resulted in soaring inflation rates and living costs for consumers. VERBUND is therefore launching a comprehensive relief package for Domestic & Commercial customers and lowering gas prices on 1 May 2024 and electricity prices on 1 July 2024 (for existing customers) as well as boosting the VERBUND hardship fund by 10 million euros.

“We are seeing a certain easing of energy prices on the wholesale markets, which is why we want to make new and attractive offers for our customers,” says VERBUND CEO Michael Strugl. “At a time of persistent inflation, it is important for us to be able to continue providing support measures for customers affected particularly badly by soaring living costs, also with the electricity price cap being removed at the end of 2024. That’s why we’re boosting the VERBUND hardship fund by a further 10 million euros for the period 2024 to 2025.”

Relief package Electricity

  • Around 90% of VERBUND’s existing Domestic & Commercial customers can benefit from the relief package.

A majority of VERBUND’s existing electricity customers have already switched to the more favourable VERBUND loyalty offer since last year and can benefit once again from a lower price from 1 July 2024: 15.60 cents net (18.72 cents gross) per kilowatt hour for Domestic and 17.60 cents net per kilowatt hour for Commercial. Existing customers on other tariffs will also see a significant reduction in price depending on their contract price.

Accordingly, a household with an average annual consumption of 3,500 kWh of electricity would save around 100 euros gross a year; depending on the individual tariff model, savings of up to 500 euros a year are possible. All existing customers who can benefit from the price reduction will informed about the scope and details in a personal letter, which will be sent out from May 2024. Excluded from the price reduction are special tariffs, e.g. float tariffs and contracts with existing fixed prices.

New customers: 5 months Freeelectricity for a minimum term of 1 year

Since 26 February, new domestic electricity customers can switch to an attractive fixed price offer of 19.90 cents net (23.88 cents gross) per kilowatt hour + 5 months Free1 electricity (corresponds to a total energy price in the first contract year of 12.41 cents/kWh net with 3,500 kWh consumption).

1New customer bonus on VERBUND electricity in the first contract year. The bonus corresponds to a 41.67% discount on the energy price (working and base price) for the consumption of the first 12 months of supply (excl. grid costs, taxes and charges). The discount is applied as a credit on the respective bill. Valid until revoked. Pro rata billing for early termination of contract or early product change.

Relief package Heat

Existing gas customers

VERBUND is reducing the gas price for existing Domestic and Commercial customers by an average of 8% as of 1 May 2024. Accordingly, a household with an average annual consumption of around 15,000 kWh of gas would save around 100 euros gross a year; depending on the individual tariff model, savings of up to 500 euros gross a year are possible.

All existing customers affected by the price reduction will informed about the scope and details in a personal letter, which will be sent out in April 2024. Excluded from the price reduction are special tariffs, e.g. float tariffs and contracts with existing fixed prices.

New gas customers

From 1 May 2024, there will also be an attractive offer for new customers for the supply of natural gas, which will comprise alternatives to Russian-sourced gas.

Complete heat pump solution

For customers who have the possibility to switch to an alternative offer that will allow them to heat in an environmentally friendly way and independent of fossil fuels, VERBUND is developing an attractive heat pump solution in conjunction with selected installation partners. This complete solution includes initial contact and immediate price indication, an on-site appointment and the creation of an overall offer, professional installation of a high-quality, environmentally friendly heat pump and processing of the grant. A heat pump tariff with 10-15% saving over the standard tariff complements the offer. Orders can be placed from 1 May 2024.

A further 10 million euros in the VERBUND hardship fund

VERBUND is not only driving the energy transition forwards, but also exercising social responsibility. Specifically for customers who are particularly badly affected by the rising cost of living, VERBUND has set up a hardship fund and boosted it with a further 10 million euros. The VERBUND hardship fund provides financial support by lowering energy bills.  All requirements for this and further information on applying for assistance can be found at
