Overview of VERBUND offers
Large-scale battery storage: Pioneering the energy transition
Expanding wind and solar power will expose the electricity grid to major fluctuations. Battery storage compensates for these fluctuations. With grid-related services, battery storage systems secure the distribution network and help integrate renewable energy. Costs for the use of the upstream network or substation levels are saved by feeding in power and labour. Excess energy is used in the control power market or intraday market. With 110 MW/130 MWh already in operation at eleven sites in Germany and a further 300 MW in the pipeline, VERBUND is positioning itself as an important player in the field of battery storage and consistently pursuing a target of around 1 GW of storage capacity by 2030. VERBUND offers partners such as municipal utilities, industrial customers and project developers different collaboration models for this.
Flexibility marketing: The key to the success of the energy transition
The solutions for a secure energy supply are intelligent, digital and flexible. Balancing production and consumption is one of the major challenges of the energy transition. With VERBUND Power-Flex, VERBUND is offering a tailor-made marketing solution including optimisation on all energy markets. Flexible plants and storage systems are optimised on demand and used profitably. This enables plant operators to generate additional revenue and contribute to a stable electricity grid.
From the availability report, to plant use optimisation on all short-term energy markets, as well as plant control and transparent reporting: everything is handled fully automatically. The trading algorithms developed by VERBUND ensure that offers are marketed intelligently and take opportunities on all markets into account.
Direct marketing for maximum profits
The expansion of renewable energy plants is being intensively supported by new marketing concepts and revenue opportunities. VERBUND, the leading provider of guarantees of origin in Austria and the German-speaking region, offers wind, photovoltaic and small-scale hydropower plant operators attractive services for direct marketing.
VERBUND has been marketing a growing portfolio of over 1,000 MW in Germany for years and is also active in this promising market segment in France, Luxembourg, Romania and Austria. With the establishment of a significant portfolio of its own assets in Spain, VERBUND has consistently continued to grow internationally in the renewable energy sector. In Germany, VERBUND offers both traditional direct marketing through the market-based feed-in premiums model and PPA products for plants where the EEG subsidy has expired (post-EEG plants) or other direct marketing.
Guarantees of origin for greater transparency
Guarantees of origin (GO) for electricity play a key role in promoting transparency in the energy market. They provide clear evidence of where and how electricity is produced from renewable energy sources and provide companies with a valuable basis for achieving their sustainability performance targets. Given the growing importance of information on the energy sources used – particularly in terms of CO₂ emissions and environmental impact – the demand for demonstrable proof of renewable energy sources is constantly increasing.
VERBUND enables companies to use GO to present their sources of electricity purchases transparently. This helps industrial customers to purposefully select renewable energy to reduce their Scope 2 emissions and carbon footprint. Companies also benefit from increasing requirements for sustainability reporting. Thanks to the legal framework and regulatory control by the guarantees of origin register, GO provide the necessary security and can serve as an additional quality feature.
VISION – VERBUND’s innovative sales and trading platform
The VISION central service platform supports business customers, whether they are municipal utilities, industrial companies or operators of decentralised energy generation plants, with flexible power procurement, marketing optimisation, market data, invoice archiving and demand response services. Simple data analysis through rapid access to market and plant data, ease of use through intuitive navigation and clear visualisations, as well as optimised decision-making based on precise real-time data, enable customers to optimise their energy processes and actively help shape the energy transition. The comprehensive interfaces (APIs), which enable machine-to-machine communication, making processes between customers and VERBUND completely digital and automatable, are of particular note. This is a trend that really started to pick up speed in 2024 and will continue to gain momentum at an impressive pace in 2025.
E-charging infrastructure: Charging solutions connect the energy and mobility transition
VERBUND offers all-in-one charging infrastructure solutions for companies, the property sector, the hotel industry, restaurant businesses and the retail sector to make it easier to get started with electromobility. As a complete solution provider for energy and sustainability, VERBUND powered by SMATRICS actively supports industrial, property and transport sectors on their path to emission-free mobility and linking the energy and mobility transition. This makes sites more attractive, enhances their green image and improves their carbon footprint.
Real-time data ecosystem as a bridge between industry and energy suppliers
As part of an innovation partnership, VERBUND is relying on the newly founded joint venture TTTech ZYNE, which will offer a reliable and secure real-time energy management solution that will act as an intelligent bridge between industry, energy suppliers and municipal utilities from mid-2025. The “Energy Performance System (EPS)” product, which is under development, modulates and adapts the full supply of decentralised plants, integrates PV electricity generation, controls & prioritises charging stations for electric vehicles and optimises battery storage with the objective of optimising the cost of the entire energy system at peak times. EPS offers an integrated solution that meets the challenges of modern energy supply for our customers.
Changing framework conditions on the energy market have meant that energy costs are a crucial location factor. At the same time, demand for efficiency, sustainability and safe, trustworthy solutions for critical infrastructures is increasing. Real-time data plays a key role: it enables companies to respond flexibly to market signals, reduce balancing energy costs and dynamically adjust energy flows. Innovation partners TTTech and VERBUND are tackling these issues with an approach that combines cutting-edge technologies with sound market knowledge.
Photovoltaic solutions for generation and mobility
Photovoltaic systems help companies become more environmentally friendly, more economical and more energy-independent. With the PV own-use model, VERBUND offers companies overall energy concepts for their path to a sustainable energy future. PV carport systems are a new addition to the range. VERBUND is complementing its range of rooftop systems and open-field solar installations with carport solutions that transform parking areas into solar power plants. Combined with a charging infrastructure, they create an elegant additional benefit for emission-free mobility. Existing areas are used practically for solar power production, charging options and shade. VERBUND is setting new standards for the energy and mobility transition
