Annabrücke Run-of-River Plant

The VERBUND power plant Annabrücke is a run-of-river power plant on the Drava and located in the municipality of Gallizien in Carinthia. Europe's highest fish pass is situated there.

Europe’s highest fish pass

Austria’s highest fish pass has been built at the Annabrücke power plant. The fish overcome a 26 metre height difference in this slot pass system. The project is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Regions and Tourism and the province of Carinthia.

Turbines and generators: The two machine sets have vertical Kaplan turbines which achieve a nominal output of 90 MW at a nominal flow rate of 205 m³/sec. and a head of 24.3 metres. The five-bladed impellers have a diameter of 5.1 metres and are directly coupled with the generators, with machine 1 driving a 60 MVA single-phase traction current generator (16 2/3 Hz) and machine 2 driving a 58 MVA three-phase synchronous generator (50 Hz).

Transformers: A 60 MVA block transformer with oil cooling is available for raising the traction current from 10 kV to 121 kV.

Weir system: Each of the three weir fields of the plant has a width of 18 metres and a barrier height of 15 metres. They are closed with oil-hydraulically powered, welded pressure segment barriers with weir gates.

The Annabrücke power plant was built between 1976 and 1981 and co-financed by KELAG.
