We think about hydrogen in the short and long term. In the short term, the focus is on the local production of green hydrogen for direct use at our customers. In the long term, we are working on diversified import routes in order to be able to cover the sharply increasing demand for hydrogen.
In doing so, our team covers the entire value chain. From the partnership-based generation of renewable energy and the production of green hydrogen to the coordination of the necessary infrastructure expansion and the use of hydrogen at our customers, especially those in industry. Green hydrogen is the key to the energy transition and decarbonisation and a future field that VERBUND is heavily focused on.

Hydrogen Business Steering

All threads for purposeful management of the project portfolio and a structured approach to work within the hydrogen team come together in Business Steering. The team has an overview of figures, data and regulations and lays the foundations for data-based decision-making through the setting up and expansion of processes. It also acts as the central interface within the VERBUND Group.  

Local production: Water Asset Development & Operations

Our goal is to develop a sustainable hydrogen industry by efficiently producing green hydrogen and distributing it in our markets. Through project management and innovations, we are contributing to a low-carbon future and continually improving our processes. We are creating growth opportunities and striving to make hydrogen a key pillar in the global energy transition.

Hydrogen Marketing & Communication

Our goal in the area of Hydrogen Marketing & Communication is to reach out to potential partners for our green hydrogen projects. The market analysis and innovation management help us identify potentials and business models. By employing effective communication, we increase our visibility as a leading player in the start-up of the hydrogen industry, in order to create a green future and secure our industrial locations in Europe.

Hydrogen Business Development

The Hydrogen Business Development department is responsible for strategic business development and commercial management in the area of "Green Hydrogen". Its primary tasks also include the establishment of partnerships along the entire value chain, in order to build up diversified import corridors to Austria and southern Germany. This involves developing and implementing business development strategies as a means to identifying potential projects and establishing partner relations.
