The Salzach River

With 225 km length from its source in the Kitzbueheler Alps to its confluence with the Inn near Haiming, the Salzach is the Inn's longest tributary and has the greatest volume of water.

The water from the Upper Tauern mountains is the source of energy for VERBUND's power plants in Salzburg. It is used in multiple ways to generate electricity efficiently and in an environmentally sound way: first in Kaprun, and then along the Salzach. Along the middle section of the Salzach, VERBUND and the Salzburg AG operate power plants jointly.
