Welcome to the visitors power plant Ybbs-Persenbeug!!

At Austria's oldest Danube power plant you can get a behind-the-scenes look at electricity generation. Situated right alongside the Danube bicycle path, we lift the power plant curtain for you and escort you through this architectural jewel. A unique virtual reality experience with 3D effects offers spectacular insights into the power plant’s inner workings. The Danube power plant Ybbs-Persenbeug was completed in 1959 and was the manifested pride of the still-young Austria. The charm of the 1950’s contrasts with the modern technology. We explain how the power plant is used to obtain electricity from the Danube, and what role power plants play in flood protection and water purification. During the tour, you can generate electricity yourself, and with 3D glasses you can see what is going on far below the Danube in a Kaplan turbine. During your visit you can also watch the current progress on the machine exchange programme Ybbs2020.
