Construction commenced in 1897, but its power had to be increased to 59 kW in 1903 due to the large demand for electricity. In 1925/26, a new Francis turbine was installed and the generator converted from direct current to alternating current. This turbine is still in operation today and was given a new impeller in 2007 during a winter overhaul. The power plant generates around 3 GWh of electricity annually.
