Talbach Run-of-River Power Plant

VERBUND's power plant of Talbach is a run-of-river plant situated on the river Talbach (near the river Enns) and in the municipality of Schladming in Styria.

Technical Description

Construction of the Talbach power plant started in 1897. In 1903 already, the output had to be increased to 59 kW, due to the large demand for electricity. In 1925/26, a new Francis turbine with 90 kW capacity was built in and the generator was switched from a DC current to alternating current. This turbine is in operation today and got a new rotor in 2007 following a winter inspection. The power plant generates around 3 GWh of electricity per year.
