Triebenbach Run-of-River Plant

VERBUND's Triebenbach power plant is a run-of-river plant on the Triebenbach stream at the western edge of Trieben in the Paltental Valley in Styria.

The Triebenbach run-of-river power plant was built between 1993 and 1995. A vertically installed, six-nozzle Pelton turbine with directly coupled alternating current synchronous generator generates around 43 GWh of electricity annually.

Ecology & environmental protection

A fish bypass will not be implemented at the VERBUND power plant Triebenbach, as this would not be of any added ecological value. 

The entire plant group of the Styrian hydropower plants has been awarded the environmental certificate ISO 14001. The power plants on the rivers Mur and Enns not only fulfil the statutory requirements but also focus on high environmental standards and technical innovations. The goal is the efficient use of hydropower and the balance between economy and ecology. The effectiveness and benefit of the environmental management system are mainly the responsibility of our employees, who undergo constant training and development in this area.

Wherever ecologically valuable and technically feasible, VERBUND has set itself the goal of guaranteeing the continuity of flow for domestic fish and aquatic life at the locations of its hydropower plants. By 2025, VERBUND will invest 280 million euros on the implementation of fish bypasses and other ecological structural measures.

 
Our latest conservation projects
Turbines and generators: A vertically installed, six-nozzle Pelton turbine suppliers a maximum output of 9,900 kW. The impeller has a diameter of 1.42 metres, the nominal flow rate is 6 m³/sec. The directly coupled 14,700 kVA three-phase synchronous generator has a rated voltage of 6.3 kV.

Transformers: The generated energy is raised to 30 kV by a 16,000 kVA block transformer and conducted via an underground cable to the Schwarzenbach substation and to the interconnector to Trieben. In addition to the block transformer, the plant also has its own 250 kVA transformer for dropping the voltage from 30 kV to 400 V.
 
Weir system: The water in the Triebenbach is discharged on the left bank, just below the confluence of the Sunkbach. After the fine screen, the generating water arrives in the pressure tunnel through two tunnel inlet gates.
