The power station was put into operation in 1949. From 1982 to 1987, all three machine sets were renewed step by step, increasing the output from 25,000 kW to 28,000 kW. Three Kaplan turbines generate an annual average of approx. 155 GWh of electricity.

Ecology & environmental protection

Due to the extremely cramped conditions, part of the fish ladder in the left-hand weir stringer, which survived the construction period of the power plant (1941 to 1949), was used for the route of the fish bypass. A multi-structure slot basin pass consisting of 74 basins with 14 additional resting pools was built. This arrangement has a total length of approx. 300 metres and has to overcome a height difference of 9.6 metres.

The functionality of the fish bypasses on the Drava is continuously monitored. This is supported by a video monitoring system – the so-called FishCam – developed jointly with the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences. The migratory fish are recorded visually, identified and subsequently recorded in a database and professionally evaluated.
