Peggau Run-of-River Power Plant

VERBUND's Peggau-Deutschfeistritz power plant is a run-of-river plant on the Mur River in the municipality of Deutschfeistritz in Styria.

The run-of-river power plant was built between 1906 and 1908; the original machinery and equipment was replaced with modern systems between 1963 and 1965. The plant also comprises two Kaplan turbines which generate approximately 81 GWh of electricity annually.

Environmental protection & ecology

A fish bypass was successfully integrated into the Adriach weir system of the Peggau power plant in 2015. The 270 metre-long fish ladder consists of a vertical slot pass and a near-natural bypass channel. The height difference to be overcome between the headwater and tailwater is approx. 5.3 metres.

Turbines and generators: Two vertically mounted Kaplan turbines with five impeller blades have a nominal output of 6,560 kW at an intake capacity of 55 m³/sec. The directly coupled 8,000 kVA three-phase synchronous generators supply a nominal voltage of 5.3 kV.

Transformers: There are two machine transformers next to the powerhouse for raising the generated energy from 5 kV to 20 kV.
