Urreiting Run-of-River Power Plant

The joint venture power plant at Urreiting is a run-of-river power plant situated on the river Salzach southeast of the town of Urreiting.

The Urreiting run-of-river power plant was built between 1983 and 1986. Two Kaplan bulb turbines generate around 76 GWh of electricity annually and supply the region with environmentally friendly electricity produced entirely from hydropower.

Ecology & environmental protection

In 2015, the existing fish bypass at the site was modernised and brought up to the latest state of technology. Due to space constraints, an innovative prefabricated system – an enature multi-structure slot fishpass – was used. In total, the fish bypass is 310 metres long. What is special about it is the slow speed at which the water flows through it. In this way, juvenile and weaker-swimming species of fish, such as the European bullhead, can migrate through it more easily.

In addition, structuring measures were implemented in the reservoir area of the Urreiting power plant in 2011. Structural elements for improving the morphology of the regulated and hard-built Salzach were created and thereby important areas of shallow water and retreat for juvenile fish or as a defence against floods.

 
Our latest conservation projects
Turbines and generators: Two Kaplan bulb turbines with a horizontal shaft generate an output of 9,600 kW each with a head of 10.20 metres. The four-blade impellers with a diameter of 3.60 metres have an intake capacity of 106.5 m³/sec. The two bulb turbine generators have a nominal output of 9,500 kVA. The generators are cooled by means of a closed circuit.

Transformers: Two 9,500 kVA machine transformers raise the generated energy to 30,000 V. Transmission is via two parallel 30 kV cable lines to the Pongau substation of Salzburg AG. The plant additionally has two 400 kVA transformers to cover its own requirements.

Weir system: In order to control the three-field weir system, welded pressure segments in the box design with weir flaps are used. With a clear width of 10 metres, the barriers enable a total dammed height of 10.93 metres. The system is power oil-hydraulically by means of Rexroth weir hydraulics.
