Landl Run-of-River Power Plant

VERBUND's power plant at Landl is a run-of-river plant situated on the river Enns and between the towns of Kirchenlandl and Mooslandl in the municipality of Landl in Styria.

The power plant was built between 1964 and 1967. On average, a Kaplan spiral turbine generates about 136 GWh of electricity per year and supplies the region with environmentally friendly electricity from 100% hydropower.

Ecology & environmental protection

The construction of a fish bypass is currently being evaluated. The entire plant group of the Styrian hydropower plants has been awarded the environmental certificate ISO 14001. The power plants on the rivers Mur and Enns not only fulfil the statutory requirements but also focus on high environmental standards and technical innovations. The goal is the efficient use of hydropower and the balance between economy and ecology. The effectiveness and benefit of the environmental management system are mainly the responsibility of our employees, who undergo constant training and development in this area.

Wherever ecologically valuable and technically feasible, VERBUND has set itself the goal of guaranteeing the continuity of flow for domestic fish and aquatic life at the locations of its hydropower plants. By 2025, VERBUND will invest 280 million euros on the implementation of fish bypasses and other ecological structural measures. 

Environmental protection at VERBUND
Turbines and generators: A vertically mounted Kaplan spiral turbine achieves a rated output of 25,000 kW at a nominal flow rate of 120 m³/sec. and a head of 21.35 metres. The directly coupled 28,000 kVA three-phase synchronous generator has a rated voltage of 10.5 kV.

Transformers: The generated energy is raised from 10.5 kV to 110 kV by a 28,000 kVA machine transformer in the main power plant. The electricity is conducted away via a 110 kV line to the switchgear of the Hieflau power plant. A 250 kVA transformer with rated voltages of 10.5 kV/400 V supplies the power plant with its own requirements.
