Energy discovery tour just outside Vienna
From "Turbine number 1" you have a good view of the future of energy. VERBUND owns, and has been operating since the beginning of 2009, the wind farms Bruck an der Leitha, Hollern and Petronell-Carnuntum. The wind farms are located approximately 45 km from Vienna, in the county of Bruck an der Leitha. In the picturesque landscape between the Danube, the Leitha River and vineyards, it is a recreation paradise that ideally complements the clean electricity generation.
What started in the year 2000 with the wind farm Bruck an der Leitha is now a showcase model for regional, climate-friendly electricity generation. A special feature of the wind farm at Bruck an der Leitha is a wind turbine with a viewing platform. Our guides climb with you by means of an inner-lying spiral staircase to a height of approx. 60 metres. After 279 steps you've reached the goal and can watch from the glass-encased platform how the rotor blades turn wind energy into rotary motion, which in turn generates electricity.
