Events at Schlegeis

From dam tours to the Wanderherbst autumn hiking: The Schlegeis Alpine Road entices visitors annually with a colourful mixture of events.

Enjoy a blaze of autumn colour

Autumn is one of the most colourful times of the year. With the motto "Wanderherbst Autumn Hiking", VERBUND grants a 50% discount on the normal rates for the Schlegeis Alpine Road on two Sundays in September (9th and 16th September 2018).

The Zillertaler Alps lure you with their incomparable treasures of fauna and flora. Lace up your hiking boots and go on a discovery tour. Whether a short walk along the reservoir, a coffee break surrounded by nature, or a hike to the Pfitscherjoch or the Olperer Hut. The numerous huts provide for the perfect finishing touch with their culinary delights and unique views.

Lean back and relax, enjoy the last rays of sunshine and tank up energy for the winter - Wanderherbst Autumn Hiking at the Schlegeis Alpine Road and Reservoir.

24 hour picture hunt

When night falls, it gets quiet at the Schlegeis Reservoir. The visitors have left, and only the occasional light may be seen from the huts along the lake. Just the right time to capture this almost mythical mood with a camera.

The first weekend in September 2016, the moment had arrived. A small group of professional and amateur photographers explored the area surrounding the Schlegeis Reservoir. This included SCHLEGEIS 131 (the world's first via ferrata on a dam), an overnight stay in a mountain hut, a dam tour, a personal guide, as well as meals. This was made possible by VERBUND, the Mayrhofen-Hippach Tourism Association, the Zillertaler Alpen High Mountain Nature Park and Community Igers Austria.

The results (a little "best of") of the 4th VERBUND Photo Nightwalk may be found here.

Planning is already underway for the next Photo Nightwalk. The date and location are yet to be announced.

A glimpse behind the scenes of electricity generation

Explore the inner workings of the 725 m wide and 131 m high Schlegeis Dam. The one-hour tour of the Schlegeis Dam is offered every full hour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., from June to October.

Our knowledgeable staff offers you the rare opportunity to get to know the inner workings of the 131 m tall, double-curved arch-gravity dam. You enter the first inspection walkway in the 725 m long dam, the longest of VERBUND's dams. Our guides are eager to explain the complicated technical measuring and control devices in the dam in a way that you can understand.

Meeting place and registration for the tour at the marked meeting point in front of the Bergrestaurant Schlegeis. This is also where you get the tickets for your tour beforehand. We request that you notify us in advance of groups of 15 or more persons.
