The storage power plant was built between 1929 and 1931 as a daily storage facility with a bottleneck capacity of 800 kW. Installed in the power house is a vertical machine set consisting of a Francis spiral turbine. The reservoir pack lies at an elevation of 867.7 metres and is dammed by a 33.2 metre-high gravity wall. Today, the run-of-river power plant generates an annual average of 2 GWh of electricity entirely from hydropower.

Ecology & environmental protection

The entire plant group of the Styrian hydropower plants has been awarded the environmental certificate ISO 14001. The power plants on the rivers Mur and Enns not only fulfil the statutory requirements but also focus on high environmental standards and technical innovations. The goal is the efficient use of hydropower and the balance between economy and ecology. The effectiveness and benefit of the environmental management system are mainly the responsibility of our employees, who undergo constant training and development in this area.

Wherever ecologically valuable and technically feasible, VERBUND has set itself the goal of guaranteeing the continuity of flow for domestic fish and aquatic life at the locations of its hydropower plants. By 2025, VERBUND will invest 280 million euros on the implementation of fish bypasses and other ecological structural measures.

Our latest conservation projects
Turbines and generators: In terms of machinery, the small power plant is equipped with a Kaplan turbine with vertical shaft and a nominal output of 800 kW. The impeller has a diameter of 0.805 metres and can process a water volume of 3 m³/sec. at a speed of 600 rpm. The directly coupled 900 kVA three-phase synchronous generator has a nominal voltage of 5.52 kV.

Transformers: The generated energy is raised to 20 kV by an 800 kVA machine transformer and conducted via an open-air transmission line to the switchgear of the Arnstein power plant.
