Teigitschmühle Run-of-River-Power Plant

VERBUND's power plant of Teigitschmühle is a run-of-river plant situated on the river Teigitsch near the lower Teigitschgraben trench in the municipality of Voitsberg in Styria.

Construction of the Teigitschmühle power plant was completed in 1926. It was operated for the first time as an unstaffed plant by remote control from the plant at Arnstein starting in 1925. A Francis double turbine generates an annual average of around 2 GWh of electricity.

Environmental protection at VERBUND

Ecology & environmental protection

There is no fish bypass at the Teigitschmühle power plant and one is not being planned as this would not deliver any ecological value added. The power plant is fed by the Salzbergbach, the headrace comes from the parallel Teigitsch, which flows around the power plant unimpeded.

The entire plant group of the Styrian hydropower plants has been awarded the environmental certificate ISO 14001. The power plants on the rivers Mur and Enns not only fulfil the statutory requirements but also focus on high environmental standards and technical innovations. The goal is the efficient use of hydropower and the balance between economy and ecology. The effectiveness and benefit of the environmental management system are mainly the responsibility of our employees, who undergo constant training and development in this area.

Wherever ecologically valuable and technically feasible, VERBUND has set itself the goal of guaranteeing the continuity of flow for domestic fish and aquatic life at the locations of its hydropower plants. By 2025, VERBUND will invest 280 million euros on the implementation of fish bypasses and other ecological structural measures.


Our latest conservation projects
Turbines and generators: The plant is equipped with a Francis double turbine with a nominal output of 1,200 kW and can process 15 m³/sec. with a nominal head of 12.2 metres. The shaft-coupled 1,900 kVA three-phase generator has a nominal voltage of 5.5 kV.

Transformers: The generated energy is raised from 5.25 kV to 21 kV via a 1,600 kVA machine transformer and transmitted to the 20 kV plant of STEWEAG-STEG-GesmbH (SSG) in the Arnstein power plant. The power plant’s own requirements are met directly by the Arnstein power plant.

Weir system: Before the generating water inlet above the powerhouse are two vertical lift gates, which can be raised and lowered via gear racks. Control takes place fully automatically from Arnstein.
